What To Do In Victoria

What to do in Victoria – Plenty!

If you and your family are planning a visit and wondering what to do in Victoria, then read on.

I’m about to share ‘3 of Victoria’s best kept secrets!’

Victoria is situated on Vancouver Island in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada. The City is the Capital of British Columbia and is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island is located off the Pacific West Coast of Canada approximately 100 kilometers from the mainland and City of Vancouver.

Take a look at this short video giving you a glimpse of my ‘Number 1’ suggestion of what to do in Victoria!

Enjoy!

Victoria has been labeled by visitors many times over as perhaps one of the most “beautiful places in the world” and I couldn’t agree more! The City simply comes alive, like most, in the summer months!

But Victoria is a year round playground because of its mild climate.  It is, without a doubt, the warmest year round climate to be found in Canada!

What to do in Victoria – Whale Watching!

Number 1:

prince of whales

prince of whales

Taking a whale watching tour is perhaps one of the most exciting adventures you can take with your family!

It’s something that just isn’t thought of because it’s such a unique experience not found most anywhere!

As you can see from the video above, the experience and excitement of catching glimpses of “Killer Whales” is really a thrill of a lifetime.

Take it from me, having grown up and lived in Victoria for many years and been avid scuba diver for years, actually seeing these incredible creatures up close and personal, is truly spectacular!

An experience not forgotten!

You must mark this unique experience down on your … ‘Victoria things to do’ travel list.’

Your whale watching adventure begins by taking a thrilling high speed Zodiac in search of these great mammals!  For those seeking a little larger vessel and comfort, there are also beautifully equipped cruisers for your enjoyment.

Depart from Victoria’s ‘scenic inner harbor‘ located in the heart of the City and its main tourist attractions such as the beautiful Empress Hotel, Provincial Museum and Parliament Buildings.

Catch the waves and zip out to sea feeling safe and secure with highly qualified Captain’s and tour guides who are qualified naturalists!  They promise an exhilarating adventure you won’t forget!  For more information, I’ve included a website link to one of the foremost whale watching tour companies in Victoria.

Testimonials:

“We are still talking about the fantastic viewing opportunity we had. We were frankly overwhelmed by the number of whales we saw that day and the number of pictures that we got with our “point and shoot” digital. This is a trip will we long remember”.

“We had a fabulous day out on the water with our zodiac Capt. James. Thank you so much for keeping us safe. I am deathly afraid of water and you did great job making me feel comfortable. Thank you so much. I had so much fun. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“Thanks again for a great trip – it was definitely one of the highlights of my vacation.”

What to do in Victoria – Horse Drawn Carriage Ride

Number 2:

What to do in Victoria

What to do in Victoria

One other special attraction to take in while visiting Victoria BC, is to take a fun and scenic ride in a ‘Horse Drawn Carriage‘.

Again, this is something special and unique this beautiful City has to offer its visitors.

Especially if you’re enjoying a family cruise vacation and coming into port, how special would it be to be welcomed and enjoy a tour on a horse drawn carriage?

Sit back, relax and enjoy and number of guided tours to select from, all in the comfort of an open air horse drawn carriage and not in a stuffy tour bus.  If you’re looking to see the sites of downtown Victoria, then this is definitely worth making note of when looking at what to do in Victoria!

Typical tours include Victoria’s beautiful ‘Beacon Hill Park‘, travel down the not to be missed scenic waterfront and glimpse at restored heritage buildings of old and historic James Bay.

Travel up into downtown Victoria and catch the main attractions of the City. View ‘Old Towne‘ and North America’s second oldest ‘China Town‘. Then make your way back to the Victoria’s ‘Inner Harbor’, passing the famous Empress Hotel and the Parliament Buildings.

Wondering what to do in Victoria?  Then if anything, choose 1 of the 3 things to do at least! You won’t be disappointed.   I’ve included a handy website link to Victoria’s oldest running horse drawn carriage companies and well respected as well for your convenience.

Testimonials:

“Fun, informative and worthwhile.”

“Tour Fit for a Princess.”

“Wedding evening carriage ride.”

What to do in Victoria – Stroll Ogden Point Seawall

Number 3:

Ogden Point Seawall

Ogden Point Seawall

The last special thing and one of my all – time favorite things to do in Victoria is to always take a stroll on the ‘Ogden Point Seawall ‘.

If you want to enjoy a nice scenic walk overlooking the Pacific Ocean in downtown Victoria, then this is a must for every visitor.

What’s extra special is that taking a stroll on this unique seawall doesn’t cost you a cent!  It’s Free and Fun!  Enjoy a walk on the breakwater seawall and afterwards, have coffee at the Ogden Point
Dive Center and Café.  The restaurant is situated right alongside the breakwater walkway, so you can still take in the amazing view.

It’s easy to access, right next to the cruise ship terminal and within minutes of the inner harbor of Victoria.

Watch ‘Cruise ships‘ come and go, fish boats and seaplanes out and about and send off those ‘whale watchers’ as they make their way out to sea!  The breakwater is also a favorite among ‘scuba divers‘, so you can follow their bubbles as you walk along the seawall. You can even see directly across to Washington State and view the beautiful ‘Olympic Mountains‘.  The view alone is worth the visit!

There’s large rock and seashore as well to stroll along and keep the kids amused.  Definitely something for the whole family to enjoy!

Don’t forget to mark this on your Victoria things to do list!  You and your family will be happy you did!

I’ve included a handy link to a website on some of Victoria’s attractions, including Ogden Point with some pictures added for you convenience.

Three exciting things for you and your family to do if wondering ‘what to do in Victoria’.  Here at Holidays for Family, I strongly recommend visiting this fine City and taking in as many attractions as you can. Whether you fly or drive, it’s the perfect Holidays in Canada destination!
