This famous Westin hotel is located in the ‘Union Square district‘ of the City and opened its doors to the public back in 1904. The premier places to stay San Francisco elegance!
Surviving past earthquakes and undergoing several improvements and expansions over the years, it is now one of the biggest luxury hotels in San Francisco, boasting almost 1200 rooms.
Union square is ideally located for most everyone visiting the city and especially those wanting to take in the many attractions of San Francisco, that make this amazing city so wonderful!

Here’s a review sent to me on the St. Francis Hotel and attractions: 17-20 Jun 2011
We just returned from the City of San Francisco, California, USA. It was a warm sunny trip, but at times still a cool breeze, which is normal for the area and refreshing. This journey had us staying at the historical Westin St Francis Hotel at Union Square. We were immediately welcomed to the front counter by Matthew and given the 30th floor room (3083) facing the Bay and the Square.
Our room was not ready, as expected on arrival in the early am, so we were given cold bottles of water and a convenient change room with all necessary refreshment articles which was a pleasant surprise. This Westin Hotel is just “amazingly beautiful“ with huge chandelier’s, gold pillars, marble stair cases with numerous viewing balconies to the lobby area.
The ‘copper revolving entrance doors‘ gave you a feeling of stepping back in time and feeling the luxury of years past. You just feel the importance of this hotel where numerous U.S.A. Presidents, the Queen of England and many movie actors have stayed here in the past.
A great location with ‘Cable Cars‘ stopping right in front on Powell St. The hotel is close to major shopping stores, as well as many excellent and charming restaurants nearby.
Only three blocks from Market St. where one can purchase a “Passport Transportation Card” for all the cities buses and ferry’s. This area is where the conductor’s turn the Cable Cars around, making for a unique photo opportunity!
San Francisco City was built on 43 hills supporting vintage street buses (F-line) cable cars, all exciting to travel on and a very reasonable cost to get to many attractions such as; Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39 where there is activity of all sorts to see and enjoy.
We used “ShuttleFare” from the airport and picked us up at our hotel for the return flight in good time.
Booking Tours online from Grey Line Co. was very helpful, as no line ups and
they will also give you the needed tour coupons ahead of time. They were always professional, on time and tour guides were humorous and knowledgeable of the city and area.
We enjoyed the China Restaurant and walking tour with the Treasure Island bus tour to see the city lights and bridges across the bay. Of course, one cannot visit the City without taking the Tour of Alcatraz!
San Francisco City has many cultures, building designs, activities, beautiful scenery and sites for young and old to enjoy!
