Enjoy Healthy Family Travel Always

I thought I would briefly touch on the importance of always taking the necessary precautions to ensure healthy family travel.

I recently made a visit to my family doctor in preparations for our next holiday abroad.

I was receiving my last inoculation in a series of travel shots required for our journey.

My doctor loves to travel and mentioned a five very important things to consider when traveling that I thought was definitely worth passing on to you.

First, have a look at this Doctor has to say about maintaining healthy family travel.

Enjoy …

Healthy Family Travel – For Safe Holidays

How many times have you heard from family or friends who have gone on vacation and came down with some ailment or injury do to something that could have easily been prevented? Perhaps you have found yourself in that situation at one time or another in past years.

Well I know I have and it certainly could have been prevented and quite easily for that matter.  Here at Holidays for Family,  I’m going to share with you some easy family travel tips so you and your family can enjoy safe healthy family vacations.

Healthy Family Travel – Tip # 1

Don’t Get Hitwithout a doubt the most important tip to remember and according to my family doctor that is the number one cause of injury or death for those on vacation is injury or death due to getting ‘hit’.

This involves becoming involved in a motor vehicle accident of some nature or getting struck by a vehicle while on holidays.

This can be tragic especially with family travel.

Think twice about renting those scooters on those fun tropical cruise holidays with your family or friends as this is the number one cause of injury or death.

I personally experienced a young vacationer nearly struck and killed by a large truck while riding a scooter in Mexico.  If not for the quick action of the truck driver, the person renting the scooter surely would have been killed.

In most cases, it is because of inexperience riding a motorcycle, being unfamiliar with traffic and roads in the area and unfortunately in many cases, alcohol is also involved.

Be sure to travel safely with your family at all times while away!

Healthy Family Travel – Tip # 2

Don’t Get Bit   if you travel with kids, it is especially important to take the necessary steps to prevent you and your family from getting bit. This more so if you are traveling to tropical countries around the world where snakes, spiders and those nasty ‘mosquitoes’ are.

For most of us who enjoy those great all inclusive family vacations to tropical beach resorts in the Caribbean, Mexico or any other tropical paradise, you must take steps to prevent bites!

This is perhaps biggest concern to be aware of and take precautions is for diseases contracted from mosquito bites.

Such diseases are…

  • West Nile Virus
  • Dengue Fever
  • Malaria
  • Yellow Fever

Be sure to carry a natural bug repellent and / or have the necessary travel shots to ensure a healthy family vacations.

Healthy Family Travel – Tip # 3

Don’t Step On Itin other words, do not walk around in bare feet from place to place. This is especially true when walking on streets or sidewalks where one can contract a multitude of diseases and injuries for that matter.

Be sure to ‘wear footwear‘ at all times especially when on holidays.

A simple requirement yet one too often overlooked, to ensure healthy family travel with kids.

The risk for disease and injury multiply ten fold when going barefoot!

In fact my doctor stated that this is at the top of the list for contracting …

  • Hepatitis
  • Tetanus

There are other nasty diseases that can be picked up as a result of walking bare foot, so always better safe than sorry, especially where children are concerned.

Healthy Family Travel – Tip # 4

Don’t Get Lit (aglow, ablaze, lucid, irrational) … I’m sure you’re getting the picture here, in other words don’t over indulge in alcoholic beverages.  This is unfortunately another very common cause for injuries, arrests and even death for those while away on holidays.

Healthy Family HolidaysMany people when on holidays, particularly on those all inclusive family vacations, tend to over indulge when it comes to alcohol and end up in trouble one way or another.

Sure it’s fun to let loose and have fun while away from home, but only at the right time and particularly in the right place.  It is quite normal to let your guard down after consuming too much and this is when we are particularly vulnerable.

These are some of the most common problems that do surface as a result of consuming too much alcohol while away from home and resulting in ruining that great healthy holiday.

  • (DUI ) arrest for driving while intoxicated
  • Involved in a fight or altercation of some sort
  • Becoming the victim of a Robbery

These are just 3 of the more common things that people run into while on their vacation as a result of too much alcohol or drugs for that matter.  Use common sense when traveling in foreign countries and have a fun healthy holiday!

Water … Always use caution where water is concerned.  Where ever you may be travelingBottled water too, your system is not used to the local water and its bacteria content and as a result can make you quite ill.

Try to use bottled water only or water that you are sure has been purified!  Many people become sick simply by brushing their teeth from tap water and / or from ice cubes served in those wonderful tropical drinks.  So beware and cautious of water to maintain healthy family travel with kids especially!

Healthy Family Travel – Tip # 5

Don’t Eat ( S # @ T! ) … Last but not least it comes down to what you eat when away on your family holiday.  Be careful of where and what you eat to keep a healthy family when traveling. Here are a few basics to keep aware of when eating away from home.

  • Make sure your food is well-cooked and try to stay away from any raw foods.  Try to stay away from anything that has been cooked and has stood out in the open for an unknown period of time.
  • Avoid eating raw vegetables that are not thoroughly washed beforehand.
  • Eat raw fruit that can be peeled such as bananas, oranges etc.
  • Be very careful when eating seafood – especially shellfish that may have been caught in polluted waters. This can spread hepatitis and other food-borne diseases.
Eat Safe on Holidays

Eat Safe on Holidays

Over the years many extremely healthy family members and friends have come down with mild to severe reactions while on holidays from eating contaminated shell fish.

In most cases, it is a result of overindulging in the succulent shrimps or prawns and wouldn’t?

Here is a good website shedding a little more light on the reasons for shell fish contamination that may be of help in understanding the reasons, signs and symptoms.

Remember the all too familiar saying …

  • Boil It
  • Cook It
  • Peel It
  • Or Forget It!

Again, with a few sensible eating tips to follow while away on vacation, maintaining healthy family travel isn’t too difficult at all.

Family travel is fun and exciting, following these 5 suggestions will surely help keep you and your family safe and to enjoy healthy family holidays always!
