Via Rail – Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is a yearly Christmas fundraising tour helping food banks across North America.

This is an annual fundraising train and the primary goal of the Holiday Train is to collect food and money for local food banks and to raise awareness in the fight against hunger.

A valuable service each year, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train makes its way across the nation providing a much needed service to those families in need.

“Since the program’s inception back in 1999, more than 4.8 million in cash and over 2.3 million pounds of food has been collected in Canada and the United States.”

Check out this Christmas decorated Canadian Pacific Holiday Train as it passes through a town.

A great cause and beautifully decorated! …

Via Rail

If you’re thinking of taking some Holidays in Canada, then why not consider taking a ride on  Canada’s Premier Passenger Train.

The train service is known as Via Rail. This is ‘Canada’s Passenger Railway’.

Taking the train is a great way to sit back, relax and enjoy Canada’s spectacular scenery without the stress of driving.

Step back in time and enjoy all the amenities this rail service has to offer!

Canadian Pacific Railway has been in existence virtually forever!  The train was the primary mode of long-distance transportation in Canada until the 1960s. Today, CPR currently operates three commuter services in the country.

VIA Rail Canada operates the national passenger rail service on behalf of the Government of Canada, offering safe and secure public transportation for  Canadians and for everyone visiting from abroad.

Whether you’re looking at fast city to city service, cross country touring or need passage to a remote community, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for on a  VIA Passenger Train. Rest assured that riding on this Holiday Train, you and your family will travel on one of the world’s safest and most reliable rail service.

In 2010 CP Rail carried over 4 million passengers to various parts of Canada on its 12,500 kms of track running coast to coast.

The rail service operates to 450 different communities in the country.

So unlike Canada’s world re-knownRocky Mountaineer Railtours , if you’re looking for real flexibility in your travel plans, hopping on and off at your leisure, then Via Rail is your ticket!

This company’s train fleet consists of 396 passenger cars including scenic view, dining, sleeper and others, all with passenger comfort in mind.

Their fleet has virtually everything to satisfy most everyone’s needs, from those expected on a modern train fleet to the unexpected such as wireless internet service!

Service Year Round - VIA Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

If you have some time, then you might want to consider one of Via Rails year round runs operating 3 times a week between Toronto and Vancouver.

As well, past passengers have stated that taking this trip in towards the end of September gives you a chance to see the ‘beautiful fall colors‘ and scenery this great nation has to offer.

Traveling at this time of year, the peak busy season has ended and trains are far less busy for one to enjoy a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere while aboard.

With the peak season at an end,  you can also expect some great deals to
surface, so it’s best to check the Via Rail website often or better yet, you can sign up for their e-mail newsletter.

Receiving their newsletter will keep you up to date and informed on upcoming specials and other travel information.  One other bit of travel information we observed was the great ‘Express Deals’ that surface on the website.

So again, if you and your family are flexible on dates and destinations, then there are some great last minute specials to take advantage of. If you enjoy traveling during the Christmas season, who knows, you may just run into the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train!

Check out Via Rail as an alternative to air or vehicle travel the next time you’re looking at getting somewhere in Canada.

Here at Holidays for Family, we agree that taking the train is a carefree relaxing way to get from place to place.
